Psilomelane is actually manganese oxide. Silver Crown
Psilomelane is manganese oxide in cryptocrystalline quartz.
It is a very hard
agate material that is easy to cut and polish. However, Silver Crown Psilomelane
tends to gum up
saw blades. So make sure your blades are well dressed before
and after cutting. Silver Crown Psilomelane cuts like any
other agate and takes
a high polish with tin oxide, cerium oxide or diamond. It cuts very attractive
gems. Mohs hardness 5 to 7.
We have two sizes of Silver Crown Psilomelane:
Small Size:
Most pieces will cab nicely, but some may be too small for cabs and better for
tumbling.
Medium Size: Most pieces will cut medium to small slabs,
and/or cut cabochons.
